About this collection

The Indianapolis Boulevards and Parks Collection contains photographs of land along unimproved Fall Creek Parkway, construction of the parkway, bridge photographs, and some Indianapolis parks. The original park-boulevard plan was the work of George Edward Kessler, a landscape architect from Kansas City. He was hired in 1905 by the park board to develop a system of parks connected by boulevards along the city’s waterways. Kessler’s design’s protected and enhanced the natural landscape along the parkways.
