Description	Series I, Microfilm Reel 14 of The Papers of Lew and Susan Wallace contains official documents, gubernatorial reports, interviews, speeches, correspondence, essays, poems, reviews of Ben-Hur, and other papers dating from May 1, 1879 - February 26, 1881. During this time Lew Wallace continued his appointment as Governor of New Mexico Territory under President Rutherford B. Hayes. He also completed his most famous novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, which was published by Harper & Bros. in November 1880. This microfilm reel also contains many writings of Susan Wallace, including her essay “Land of the Pueblos: Among the Archives.” Notable correspondents in this reel include Susan Wallace, Carl Schurz, James J. Dana, Edward A. Hatch, Henry Lane Wallace, Ira E. Leonard, Elston family members, Rutherford B. Hayes, George W. McCrary, James Whitcomb Riley, James A. Garfield, Harper & Bros. Publishers, and William H. Bonney (Billy the Kid).
