Description	Series I, Microfilm Reel 30 of The Papers of Lew and Susan Wallace contains professional and personal correspondence, speeches, interviews, essays, and other papers dating from July 1, 1901 - March 25, 1904. On May 15, 1902, Lew Wallace served as the master of ceremonies for the dedication of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in Indianapolis. His handwritten speech for that occasion is included in this microfilm reel. Wallace was also very involved in the Shiloh National Military Park Commission, giving an address at the dedication of Indiana's Monuments on the Battlefield of Shiloh, Tennessee. His input was sought for accuracy of the historic battles and events that occurred there, and the monuments erected in the park. Lew Wallace continued to seek patents on new inventions, such as a mold for fence posts, while Susan Wallace continued to publish her essays. Notable correspondents in this reel include Robert U. Johnson, Indiana Governor Winfield T. Durbin, David Wilson Reed, Harper & Brothers, Henry Lane Wallace, Albert J. Beveridge, Charles Fairbanks, James Whitcomb Riley, and Mary E. Phillips.
