Description |
Among the collection's oldest imprints, the Champlain book, a report to Louis XIII, offers one of the earliest documented accounts of French exploration and discovery in New France, including a study of customs, habits, and characteristics of its native peoples. The Northwest Territory and Indiana were created from the former colony. While much has been written about Champlain and his travels, the details of his report have not likely carried through to general Indiana writings on exploration. |
