Description |
Prior to 1928 the principle demand for tomato juice was for infant feeding. In those days tomato juice had to be homemade from fresh tomatoes. In 1924 the Kemp brothers decided to market a tomato juice that contained all the food factors of fresh juice and that would not separate solids from tomato juice. They succeeded by creating new equipment and a new process that reduced the tomato solids to such fineness by homogenization that they did not settle as sediment. The juice also retained all the nutritional properties of the tomato. One of the first hotels in the country to serve it was the French Lick Springs Hotel in Orange County. Kemp Brothers Packing was established in 1917 as a partnership by three brothers, Charles, Ralph and Walter, sons of John and Belle Cox Kemp of Tipton, Indiana. The Sun-Rayed Company was a Division of Kemp Brothers Packing Company, Frankfort, Indiana. |
