Description |
Born near Belfast, Ireland on April 7, 1833, James Boyce started as an apprentice for a linen manufacturer at the age of twelve and later honed his skills in the linen and flax mills of France, working his way up to supervisor. Looking for new endeavors, he sailed for New York in 1854. After laboring in the flax trade for many years in New York, Ohio and Minnesota, he arrived in Muncie, Indiana in the summer of 1870 where he became a pioneer of manufacturing in Delaware County. |
