Swiss artist Karl Bodmer created this aquatint from drawings made during his extended stay in New Harmony, Indiana, while traveling the North American frontier. Bodmer's patron, Prince Maximilian of Wied (Germany), particularly enjoyed the utopian community, where he worked closely with naturalists collecting botanical specimens. |
