Atlas map of Jasper County, 1876. Jasper County, located in the north central part of the state, was formed in 1835 and organized three years later to include present day Jasper and Newton counties. Newton County was separated in 1859 and Jasper became its present size of 561 square miles. The county was named for a Revolutionary War hero, Sgt. William Jasper of South Carolina. |
