Description
This image shows an original bookplate created by Julia Graydon Sharpe for her scrapbook . In addition to her painting , she was quite known for these bookplates . Born in Indianapolis , Julia Graydon Sharpe studied music and art at private schools and the Indiana School of Art . She later joined the Art Students League in New York and studied with leading artists of the day . After returning to Indianapolis she continued to study and paint . She was a student of William Forsyth and J. Ottis Adams . Sharpe never married and was active socially and in charity work . By 1917 she stopped painting , and despite the recognition she had received , rarely painted more than an occasional commissioned portrait .
