This photo of historic downtown Madison, Indiana and the Ohio Riverfront was taken from Milton, Kentucky. Many downtown buildings are visible in the photo, including the Jefferson County Courthouse dome, the Hillside Inn, and a few church steeples. A riverboat appears to be docked by the shore. Madison was laid out in 1810 and named for the president at the time, James Madison. |

Carolyn Elliott McManaman (1917-2011) was a prolific amateur photographer from southeastern Indiana, near Cincinnati. She graduated from DePauw University in 1939 and was active in many Indiana organizations including the Indiana Historical Society, Dearborn County Historical Society, and American Heart Association. |
