Description |
Jay C Grocery Stores was founded in Seymour, Indiana, in the 1863 by Swiss immigrant Jonathan C. Groub. Eventually the company grew to have 30 stores in southern Indiana. By 1994, the John C. Groub Company was one of the five largest private retail companies in Indiana. In 1999 the John C. Groub Co. was acquired by The Kroger Company. "Under the merger agreement, Jay C Food Stores kept their name and all employees were kept in place." |

The John Guedelhoefer Wagon Company was founded in 1873. Guedelhoefer, born in Germany in 1832 and trained in carriage making, came to Indianapolis in 1869. The company specialized in delivery wagons, especially for ice, bakery and dairy products, and later in truck bodies. It closed in 1970.
