Eventually, Mary St. Clair Fortune had enough of moving, divorced her husband, and settled with her three children in Boonville, where she ran a boarding house. William got a job as a printer’s helper with the Boonville Standard at age 13 to help support the family. By age 16, he was on the editorial staff. |
