Description |
A tenant in the living room of a unit in Barton Tower. Barton Tower was constructed at 555 Massachusetts Avenue between 1968 and 1969. The building is in the style of Brutalism, meaning unornamented slabs of exposed concrete. Barton Tower was an Indianapolis Housing Authority project so successful that the city acquired adjoining property to the east of East Street to build the Barton Tower Annex and corresponding connecting unit wing over East Street; both towers still stand but the connecting section over East Street has been demolished. The park land surrounding the original tower has also been redeveloped into mixed-use commercial and residential development. |
