dilapidated

weed-choked
race
track
in
1945
and
resurrected
it
as a
premier
racing
facility.
Upon
Wilbur
Shaw's
death
in
1954
,
Hulman
became
president
of the
Speedway.
He
continued
the
tradition
popularized
by
Shaw
and
began
each
race
with:
"Gentleman
start
your
engines."
Mari
Hulman
George
,
Hulman's
daughter
, and her
family
still
own
the
Indianapolis
Speedway.
