DescriptionThe town was platted in 1843 when it was chosen to be the county seat. By 1873 the county courthouse was condemned and the capitol moved to Fowler. The town square is the only reminder of the courthouse's former location. Various stores and businesses line the street on the east side of the square in this view from 1921.
