DescriptionUlysses P. "Hay King" Schenk (1811-1884) born in Neuchatel, Switzerland was an entrepreneur, shipping magnate, and family man. In Vevay he used the Ohio River to access southern markets. His ship the "Switzerland, " was sold to the United States during the Civil War and was used as a Union gunboat.
