NotesThis print was updated after Lincoln was elected president (original ID #573). A beard was added, and the seal at the crest of the seat was also redesigned. "The crest was transformed into a shield in the shape and style of America's flag. The candidate's chair had become, symbolically, the chair of state, a classical emblem of power and authority."
