DescriptionThe Grand Army of the Republic was an organization of Civil War veterans who had served in the Union Army. The G.A.R. had significant political clout nationwide. Between 1868–1908, no Republican was nominated to the presidency without G.A.R. endorsement. This view shows a G.A.R. encampment on the grounds of the Gibson County Courthouse, with a zeppelin flying overhead!
