DescriptionWhen Harlan and Anna arrived in New Orleans after the shanty boat trip down the Ohio and Mississippi, they used the wood from the boat to build a trailer, then bought a car and pulled the trailer back to Payne Hollow. They used the wood from the trailer in the home they built. It was across the river and about four miles from Hanover College. They wanted to "live close to the earth, " and would say "We have all the comforts of the 19th century."
