DescriptionIndianapolis's first wagonmaker, George Norwood, arrived in 1822 and built a house on the future site of the Capitol. His son Elbert was born there in 1830. The Norwoods had to move when it was decided in 1831 that the State House would be built there. George built a new house in 1840 on a lot he purchased for $350 and later sold the building to E.F. Claypool for $52, 000.
