DescriptionThe Indiana State Normal School building, originally where the Quad now stands, welcomed the first freshmen class of 23 students in 1870 before its completion in 1875. Only in use for 18 years, a fire destroyed the building. The 789 students continued their learning in downtown Terre Haute buildings, only missing one day of classes. Students continued their education off campus until the "Old Main" building opened one year later in 1889.
