Indiana
State
Normal
School
building
,
originally
where
the
Quad
now
stands
,
welcomed
the
first
freshmen
class
of
23
students
in
1870
before
its
completion
in
1875.
Only
in
use
for
18
years
, a
fire
destroyed
the
building.
The
789
students
continued
their
learning
in
downtown
Terre
Haute
buildings
,
only
missing
one
day
of
classes.
Students
continued
their
education
off
campus
until
the
"Old
Main"
building
opened
one
year
later
in
1889.
