J.M.
White
was
built
in
Jeffersonville

Indiana
, in
1878
, and
said
to be the
finest
side-wheel
cotton
packet
ever
built.
It
burned
December
13
,
1886
, at
Point
Coupee
Parish
in
Louisiana.
A
cargo
of
gunpowder
in the
hold
exploded
and
blazing
timbers
were
hurled
everywhere.
