	James Whitcomb Riley Name James Whitcomb Riley Birth/Death Dates 1841-1916 Where in Indiana Hancock County--Greenfield ; Marion County--Indianapolis When in Indiana 1841-1916 Notable For Riley was born in Greenfield, Indiana, and later lived on Lockerbie Street in Indianapolis. He worked as an artist and a newspaper reporter before becoming nationally known for his poetry. He spent a significant portion of his time traveling across the country reading his poetry. He is also known as "The Hoosier Poet." Two of his most famous poems are "Little Orphant Annie, " and "The Raggedy Man." Description Riley is shown wearing a three-piece business suit and bow tie.
