Notable ForElected to the U.S. Congress in 1976 and to the U.S. Senate in 1980. He was reelected in 1986. In 1988 George H. W. Bush chose him to be his running mate in the presidential election. Quayle was the ninth Hoosier nominated for the vice-presidency and the fifth to be elected.
