	Senator J. Danforth (Dan) Quayle Name Senator J. Danforth (Dan) Quayle Birth/Death Dates 1947- Where in Indiana Marion County-- Indianapolis; Huntington County--Huntington When in Indiana 1947-1976 Notable For Elected to the U.S. Congress in 1976 and to the U.S. Senate in 1980. He was reelected in 1986. In 1988 George H. W. Bush chose him to be his running mate in the presidential election. Quayle was the ninth Hoosier nominated for the vice-presidency and the fifth to be elected. Description This picture was taken while Quayle was a senator. He is standing in his Washington, D.C. office with Harriet M. Thompson of Indianapolis. She was the executive director of Operation Late Start Inc.
