Notable ForGene Stratton Porter and her husband Charles lived in Geneva, Indiana, near the Limberlost Swamp. She began photographing birds and animals in their natural habitat. Some of her photographs were published in magazines. Following her success with photography she began writing fiction novels. Two of her famous ones are "A Girl of the Limberlost" and "Freckles." In 1913 she moved to Sylvan Lake near Rome City, Indiana. In 1920 she moved to California and founded a motion picture company and produced films based on some of her books. She was killed in an automobile accident in Los Angeles in 1924.
