Notable ForIn 1794 when negotiations with the Indians over land failed, Wayne was authorized to fight them. In August his men defeated the Indians at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in Ohio. In September he established an American fort at the head of the Maumee River in northeast Indiana. It was named after him, Fort Wayne.
