Notable ForWilliam English was a politician who served 4 terms in the U.S. Congress. In 1880 he was the Democratic candidate for vice president. He built the English Opera House and Hotel on the northwest quadrant of Monument Circle in Indianapolis. As an author, he wrote a history of George Rogers Clark's campaigns in the Revolutionary War.
