Notable ForJonathan Jennings was born in New Jersey and raised in Pennsylvania. As a lawyer he moved to Indiana first working in Vincennes then moving to Charlestown. He represented the Indiana Territory in Congress beginning in 1809. Jennings presided over the constitutional convention at Corydon in 1816, and was elected the first state governor, 1816-1822. After 2 terms as governor he was elected to Congress and served there from 1822 to 1831. He retired to his farm in Charlestown.
