Notable ForDresser's real name was Johann Paul Dreiser, Jr. He studied at St. Meinrad's seminary in Southern Indiana, but left the school to become a composer and singer. He went to Chicago and worked as part of a quartet for Hamlin Wizard Oil Company. He composed many songs including "On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away." The General Assembly adopted it as the state song in 1913. His brother Theodore Dreiser was a famous author.
