DescriptionSignificant events during the Harrison administration included the McKinley Tariff Act, the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, the Wounded Knee Massacre on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, December 29, 1890, and the expenditure of more than a billion dollars by Congress for the first time. Although not popular, Harrison, as the incumbent, secured his party's renomination in 1892, only to lose the election to Grover Cleveland.
