NotesAtzerodt was involved in the kidnapping plot, but when the plan changed to assassination, Booth wanted him to assassinate the vice president. Atzerodt chose instead to spend the night of 14 April getting drunk and wandering around Washington, D.C. This portrait was taken while Atzerodt and the other prisoners were being held on the ironclads.
